Challenge #27 – Blinds

Blinds are another favorite of mine. I have had the need to buy blinds in several homes. The first time was in our home in Michigan. We needed blinds in our upstairs bedroom and bath and so I purchased wood blinds online at They were fully customizable, great quality and well priced. I was very happy with them.

So when we moved into our latest home and I painted all of the trim white, I went straight to Just Blinds to order my new white ones. And I am just as happy this time.

Blinds are great, but they do get dusty, AND they are a pain to clean. So I don’t do it very often. However, I have found they are easier to clean if you clean them frequently. Bummer! If you let the dust sit too long it seems to cake on there. So I found an easy way to clean them to make the job less painful and tedious.

All I do is close the blinds going down and wipe them with a warm wet rag. Then I close them going up and wipe them again. It’s just an all over wipe, I don’t go slat by slat. That is way too painful for me. If I do this once a month, I find that they stay fairly cleanable.

If you are up for the challenge, give it a try. If you don’t clean your blinds – ever – the first time may be time consuming, but keep it up, it gets easier!

If there is one thing I have taken away from this 30 day challenge it has been this: once a day, grab a warm wet rag with a touch of dishwashing soap on it and go wipe something. Blinds, baseboards, bookshelves, windows, anything you can think of. It only takes a few minutes, and can make a big difference.

We are just about to wrap up this 30 days of deep spring cleaning. I have a lot of new stuff coming that will be much more fun!  I can’t wait!
