Challenge #2 – Clean that bathroom fan vent

Before we moved into our new house in I said I was going to clean this soap scum off our shower ceiling because “I could not take a shower in that.”

It’s nine months later and I’m still showering in there! Gross.

So today was the day. I cleaned the vent, the ceiling and while I was up there I noticed the top of the tiles had plenty of dust caked on them – so I took care of those too in just under 30 minutes. But to be fair, it took me a while to find a step stool. The actual cleaning didn’t take that long.

So here is what I did.

I gathered a sponge with a little mild dishwashing liquid on it, a step stool, some cotton swabs and a vacuum.

First, I vacuumed the vent with the brush tool to get the loose dust. Then I used the sponge to clean the vent, ceiling and tile tops. After I finished with the soap, I rinsed the sponge and went over it one more time to get any residue off. Then I used the cotton swabs to get anything left in the fan vent. That was it! Easy.

It looks much better and I feel much better!

  1. My husband and I bought a home that was in move-in condition – or so we thought! It took us three months of scouring and painting before we were able to move in. Good luck on your projects! ❤
